Life Span Faith Development
SPUUF Religious Exploration
The
Fellowship has three themes that guide curriculum choices for all age
levels in its religious exploration program. Curriculum and programs are
selected to allow exploration within these themes:
- UU Identity:
focuses
on the history, people and principles of Unitarian Universalism.
- Sources
and Traditions:
explores world religions and philosophies, with special emphasis on the
Judeo-Christian heritage which are the roots of Unitarian Universalism.
-
Principles
in Action: allows
individuals to put into action the morals and ethics that reflect UU
principles and develop their personal faith statement.
Here is a listing of
historical figures investigated this year. In addition, each year children and youth classes develop a social
action or environmental stewardship project to work on during the year.
Sunday Morning Classes
Children in grades 1st - 4th can participate in religious
exploration classes during the Sunday morning service hour, 10-11 AM.
Children participate in the service until the completion of the Story
for All Ages, at which time their teacher accompanies children to their
classroom.
Childcare is available for children birth
through kindergarten. Children can be dropped off at the childcare room
before the start of the service.
Parents are welcome in the nursery as their children
adjust to the new environment.
Youth in 5th grade and above, attend the
service.
Wednesday Evening Program
Youth in grades 5th through 12th grade as well as adults, are
encouraged to participate in our Wednesday evening program. The program
starts with an all member dinner from 5:30 - 6:30 PM. Registration and a
financial donation is appreciated for the dinner. Classes for both youth
and adults start at the close of dinner.
- Youth Grades 5th through 10th -
Classes will be a mixture of UUA curriculum, fun special events,
current event discussions and service projects.
- Students Grades 11th & 12th -
Students have the option to participate in a Coming of Age/Mentor
program designed to help students articulate their religious
beliefs. An extensive social action or environmental stewardship
project is a component of the program. Mentors and students set
their own schedule.
- Adults - Classes are a
mixture of videos with discussions, short articles with discussion,
use of UUA curriculum, community guests and fun activities.
Wednesday evening programming will be
intergenerational when appropriate.
Childcare and supervised playtime is
available for children younger than 5th grade. A freewill donation is
requested per family to help cover the cost of Wednesday evening
childcare.
Information for Visitors:
SPUUF Services begin at 10 a.m. on Sundays at
3116 Algoma Street, Stevens
Point, WI.
Children attend the first 10 – 15 minutes of service with
their families and listen to the
Story for All Ages,
then they go to the RE classroom for their lesson.
Your Child’s First RE Visit:
Please try to arrive early when you first visit, so that you
can introduce yourself and your children to the RE volunteer
teachers before the service. Parents are always welcome to
visit the RE classroom, especially as their children adjust
to a new classroom environment.
You will be
requested to fill out a short information/contact form on
your first visit to the RE classroom, so that our volunteers
can begin to learn your child’s name and also be advised of
special needs (learning challenges, allergies, etc.). This
will also allow us to contact you with RE updates.
Note to Parents:
As parent or guardian, you are the primary religious educator of your
child. The SPUUF Religious Exploration program is here to provide
support for you in this challenging and rewarding endeavor. We
welcome your visits anytime in the RE classroom and also encourage you
to consider volunteer service as an RE teacher.
